Volunteer
The John Howard Society has a rich history of working with volunteers in the provision of effective programs and services to those at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system, those involved in the system and those re-entering communities on release from prison. Volunteers are an essential component of the John Howard Society. They generously donate their time to our work, and make it possible for us to provide the services and community integration that we feel is essential in the successful reintegration of ex-offenders into society.
Volunteers may aid with any of the services and programs outlined in the previous sections, or may assist with the day to day operations of our office. The safety and comfort of our volunteers is of utmost importance to us, and we will never place anyone in a situation where they do not feel comfortable. Let us know what you are interested in and we will do our best to provide the environment in which you will feel most comfortable and most value your contribution. Moreover, volunteers develop marketable skills and experience in advocacy, group leadership and one-on-one interaction.
Volunteers are an important part of the operation of the John Howard Society. It is important to ensure that each person who is designated as being a volunteer be one who will properly represent the Society in the community and with our clients.
Our organization values the advancement of equality, diversity and human rights for clients, staff, care providers and volunteers. We recognize and uphold the inherent dignity, worth, and rights of each individual and is committed to the pursuit of equality, freedom from adverse discrimination and harassment and the removal of all barriers to equal opportunity. In addition, the Society believes that each individual should be free from discrimination, harassment and barriers to equal opportunity related to their gender identity and social condition, including their economic status.
